Spreading the Library Love
Today I participated in a health fair at Friendship Village, a retirement community in Schaumburg. Two reference librarians, a circulation staff member, and an outreach assistant were there to let people know what kinds of services we can provide to people at Friendship Village. It was a lot of fun. People were happy to talk to us about questions they had, or just about their library experiences in general. We had roughly 200 people come through, and 26 people filled out library card applications. Overall, it was a successful event.
One woman walked up to me and said “I love you!” She knew I was with the library, and was telling me how much she enjoys the library. That’s what makes working at the library so enjoyable and rewarding. Most of the time, people just want to tell you how much they enjoy the library. And if you’ve helped them find information, they are very appreciative.
