Facebook in the Library

Posted in Class Posts at 4:16 pm by stracarr

For my final paper, I’m investigating how a public library can develop its online presence. You’ll hear more about this in a future post. While doing research for the paper, I stumbled upon a blog post written by David Lee King, on his blog. Here is the post: What Can You Do with a Facebook Page? David works at the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library in Topeka, Kansas.

He talks about experimenting with his library’s Facebook page. He’s included basic information about the library, like a library photo, address, phone number and the library URL. He’s also included a YouTube application, books photos, and Facebook fans of the library (they have 192 so far). The Facebook page also has RSS feeds, and other Topeka area Facebook pages.

David has great ideas! For any library that is trying to increase their online presence, and become more transparent, Facebook is any easy way to do it. I’ll definitely be referencing David Lee King’s blog post about Facebook when I’m working on my paper.
